Objective: Understanding the evolution of memory within the former concentration camp of Natzweiler, compared and contrasted with the national memory in France.
Materials: Introductory game about various commemorative memorials and plaques found in the former camp, themed slideshow presenting the evolution of memory in the camp, testimonies, speeches and images for each working group. Remembrance policy: a concrete example at the Natzweiler camp
Workflow: After identifying the various mechanisms of remembrance on the premises, the class works in small groups. Each group explains to the others how memory is constructed at one of the places in the former camp: the Lantern of the Dead, the Memorial, the Necropolis, the Crematorium, the Ash Pit and the gas chamber. Their work is reported during the tour of the site.
